Gillam RCMP makes arrest in string of break and enters
Between January 9, 2014, and January 11, 2014, Gillam RCMP received complaints of multiple break and enters.
The first break and enter occurred in the overnight period between January 9 and January 10. While the occupants of the home were sleeping, an unknown person entered the home and stole numerous items.
The second break and enter occurred the morning of January 11, 2014. Again an unknown person broke into a home where one of the occupants was at home. The occupant saw the intruder and was able to reach police, but the intruder left shortly after the call was made.
When RCMP arrived on scene, they were able to track the intruder through footprints in the snow. The impressions led to a property, with a vehicle parked outside. Officers checked the vehicle and discovered a male matching the description from the break and enter.
Gillam RCMP arrested William Bonwick, 20, of Winnipeg and charged him with two counts of Break and Enter. When his residence was searched, more stolen property was recovered, resulting in an additional charge of Theft Under or Equal to $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle.
Bonwick remains in custody and will be appearing in Thompson Provincial Court on February 14, 2014.
